In 2016, Dynamics GP and AX saw huge changes as it continued to improve its offerings. This, in turn, led to Microsoft pulling out support on Forecaster – a budgeting and planning solution.
In May of 2016, Microsoft also officially announced plans to discontinue further developments on Management reporter for GP and SL.
Discontinuance of support and further developments for these two solutions mean no bug fixes, no updates, no new features, and limited protection against the threats of cybersecurity attacks.
With Microsoft’s introduction of these changes, many customers continue to struggle to find an alternative solution.
Performance Canvas

Second, the modeling capability of Performance Canvas is far more superior to that of Forecaster. Forecaster was a good tool but it was more for a prescriptive model – meaning less adaptable which translates to struggles in implementation.
Third, forecaster was not unified with reporting. It offered only forecast/budget which means pre-populating sheets and doing unified reports requires manual work.
